Case Study

Brief

The owner of the home had already obtained planning permission for the extension to the home, but we had to finalise the design and provide full building regulation drawings. Access to the site was very limited with a 1.2m path being the only access to the rear of the property. As with many construction projects the neighbours were concerned with the development and it was essential to maintain good relations, keeping them informed of the project. As the home continued to operate as a care home business it was essential to ensure that the residents, relatives, staff and visitors were not affected by the work being carried out. The new extension needed to fully comply with not only building regulations, but also with the standards laid down by the Care Quality Commission. The project needed to be completed on time and on budget.

Objectives

  • Complete project on time
  • Complete the project on budget
  • Ensure business continuity
  • Maintain safe environment for visitors, residents and employees
  • To plan the project to take account of the limited access to the site
  • To engage with interested parties to ensure the project obtained full support by those in the area

Achievements

The project was completed ahead of schedule and on budget. The business was able to continue to operate with minimal disruption and the residents of the care home, their visitors and the staff were kept fully informed of the progress.

Despite the limited access, all materials were delivered to site and stored appropriately to ensure the site remained tidy and safe to work on.

The finished project was completed to a high standard and fully met the expectations of the client. Landscaping was undertaken to include garden walls, large patio and fish pool. English Construction was involved with the liasing with the registration team of the Care Quality Commission to ensure the regulations were fully met.

Finishing

On completion of the project , English Construction was able to attend the grand opening and see the new extension operational and fully occupied within a very short space of time. The relationship with the client has continued on both a personal and business level with further work being undertaken to the original part of the home. Interested customers have been invited to view this project to see the standard of work which is achieved by the company.
